Some of these women have cholera, some have malaria, some have tuberculosis, some are in labor, and some merely fear their children may be getting ill. It's the same all along Tanzania's western border few health clinics and staggering health problems. With limited resources, the Tanzanian Ministry of Health responds as best they can to the health needs of communities along the lake. Most of these patients will be referred to the main hospital in Kigoma, a grueling eight hour boat ride away. But is there even a boat available? Do they have enough money? Many will simply return to their homes without proper consultation, treatment, or medication - and without hope.
